This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the same level as sparing holiday birds, but the county's top official experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a second term in office.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future without fear.”
The event, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The swine, contributed by a local firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people shouting “6-7” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the festive period,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Each year, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
