Israelis have assembled around the country to commemorate the second anniversary since the Hamas-initiated attack on October 7th, 2023, as discussions advanced in the neighboring country over a conclusion to the war in Gaza.

The assault resulted in more than 1,200 people killed and 251 others captured away to Gaza as prisoners. It was the single most fatal day for Jews since the World War II.

Israel answered by launching a military offensive in Gaza which has taken more than 67,000 people, according to the territory's Hamas-run health ministry. Its statistics are seen as trustworthy by the UN and other international bodies.

"The bloodthirsty adversaries have hit us hard, but they have not overcome us," Benjamin Netanyahu remarked on that day.

He also vowed to "accomplish all the goals of the war: the release of all the kidnapped, the destruction of the Hamas administration and the promise that Gaza will not present a threat to Israel".

Memorial Ceremonies Across Israel

The Israeli government rescheduled official commemorations until October 16th - after the completion of the festive season - but events still occurred throughout the country on Tuesday.

A memorial ceremony for the families of Israeli citizens who lost their lives in the Hamas assault was organized in Tel Aviv. Put together by the families themselves, it was broadcast on Israeli television channels.

A period earlier, a moment of silence was observed across the country.

Peace Discussions in Egypt

At the same time, both sides' negotiating teams gathered in the North African coastal city of Sharm el-Sheikh for a follow-up session of third-party negotiations to discuss the terms of the agreement.

A senior Palestinian official familiar with the negotiations revealed that an night meeting of mediated discussions began at 7 PM local time.

The representative stated the earlier meeting ended without concrete outcomes, due to conflicting views over the recommended Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas seeks to guarantee Israel does not restart hostilities after the first phase of the agreement.

He commented that the discussions are "challenging and have yet to produce any major advancement," but mentioned that mediators are making efforts to close the gaps between the conflicting groups.

Critical Points in Talks

  • A lasting truce
  • The swap of the hostages still kept by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The pullout of troops from Gaza
  • Measures for humanitarian aid distribution
  • After-conflict administration of the area

Citizen Feeling

In Tel Aviv's public square previously, young Hagar - whose sibling lived through the incident on the Nova music festival, where hundreds were killed and numerous more were captured by Hamas fighters - explained: "Nowhere appears as home now and until every captive are released not a single person will be secure."

"Once we see all home again, we can feel relief anew. Then we can begin to rebuild," she concluded.

Outside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's residence in Jerusalem, people assembled to demonstrate their solidarity for the relatives of the hostages. Israel says forty-eight stay in detention in Gaza, 20 of whom are considered to be surviving.

Activist Atalia Regev stated: "We need do every compromise needed for the captives to return. But we sincerely need assurances that we will be secure."

Research now regularly indicate that about the majority of Israeli citizens want the war to end in return for the release of the hostages.

Gaza Conditions

At the location of Nova festival, grieving people gathered to pay their respects.

From there, the boom of aerial bombardments and shelling could be heard just a brief space away in Gaza, where local people said the severe Israeli attacks carried on.

In Gaza City, bombardments were noted in the early hours of that day in the western district, sector and Nasr districts and in the eastern area of Sheikh Radwan, as well Shati refugee camp to the north-west.

"Once the night comes, the anxiety comes with it," relocated urban resident a mother, whose 17-year-old son was died by an Israeli aerial attack previously, shared.

"Me and my three children are terrified of the attacks. During nighttime we are resting together, holding each other, especially my youngest child who places his face on me the entire evening."

"Continuously we look at the updates to see what happened. And I'm afraid that this halt will not be achieved and that the conflict will resume to us."

Humanitarian Crisis

The healthcare center in Gaza City said it had accepted the remains of six people by the afternoon, including three killed in an Israeli bombing in the south part area.

A different healthcare center in the south region of Khan Younis reported another two victims had been brought there. An individual was died by Israeli troops while seeking assistance to the southern area, medical staff reported.

The region's health ministry said a significant number of the {territ
