Canada's Blue Jays Claim World Series Showdown With defending champion Dodgers
George Springer previously helped the Astros securing the championship in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their initial Fall Classic after the 1993 season by beating the Seattle Mariners in the final Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
Trailing three runs to one, the star outfielder delivered a three-run homer in the seventh inning, leading the Toronto squad in Major League Baseball to a four games to three triumph in the seven-game series. Next up are the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are the defending champions, in the anticipated championship.
"It's incredible for everyone here, our city, the nation," said Springer, a key player of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "It's truly an amazing experience."
Springer has now connected for 23 playoff homers, making him third all-time behind Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (twenty-seven).
"I can't think of anyone else on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that moment besides Springer with his post-season brilliance," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the one club yet to make an appearance in a championship series.
Manager Dan Wilson said "there's no question that it's going to sting" following his side's defeat at their home ballpark, but praised their performance in the campaign.
"It's a special team. It's a shame that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of this game," he continued.
The Blue Jays secured the World Series on both previous visits in 1992 and 1993, and will host the Dodgers in the first game on Friday.
