Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Heated Debates Over Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh playlist called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough format but includes a few notable adjustments:
- Each team includes just eight real players, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
- Activities performed by real players grant complete experience points, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
- Only two maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Elements like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.
So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it gives additional choices for gamers looking for different ways to enjoy the title. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are upset.
Player Reactions: From Fury to Support
"People want human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," comments a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," and another details all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
However, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," states another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," while someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Concerns and Player Input
All that said, there are valid points to criticize the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it could increase queue times even longer for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was meant to offer full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to remove bot farms from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base compromising in the middle, as per forum feedback. A different user labels this mode as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?
Should the development team has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Tasks being too difficult got fixed very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, should analytics shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
