Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's understandable for concerns to be asked about his position after a further heavy defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in 12 matches, marking the club's poorest run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got a lot of support from above,” Slot stated.
“It's important to change things and secure a win of course but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it is normal that people question you.”
He noted, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they trust me.”
He added, “Through standard exchanges I sense the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Problems and Squad Response
Slot expressed regret over known weaknesses from his team in their Champions League defeat, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a spell like this with outcomes so bad.”
Jones finished, “But we still have the crest on our shirts. And until it is removed, we’re always going to battle.”
“We’re going to try to help the side return to its rightful place, show everyone again what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
