Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential style architect behind some of the most iconic looks favored by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died aged 80.

He was celebrated for his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, such as the light-hued ensembles that appeared in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's seminal music video for "their hit Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

This news arrives less than a month after he debuted his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "dress" made famous by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Pioneering Career

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to study at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he began designing men's fashion at the label Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with looks from supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price created the iconic jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to blend menswear and womenswear along with his technical proficiency in designing sculptural silhouettes established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," according to the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he started creating outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as various looks for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.

Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in conjunction with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Performative Style: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

Design circles mourns the loss to a true visionary whose impact on style and culture remains profoundly felt.
